Goodbye 2013, Hello 2014…

Looking back, 2013 was a pretty lovely year.

In January, I traveled to Aspen with Theatre Masters to see my short piece SAFE CITY HAVEN have a life with some spectacular actors. It was later remounted off-Broadway in April. My play FOR THE FALLS was selected for the University of Iowa’s New Play Festival and premiered in May. My short play EVERYBODY HURTS (SOMETIME) was a City Theatre National Award Finalist, and I traveled to Miami to see it performed and met some fantastic, life-changing fellow writers along the way. I spent the summer in my beloved Chicago where my new play POCKETFUL OF SAND had a staged reading as part of LiveWire Chicago Theatre’s Unplugged Series. I came back to Iowa in September to work on a new adaptation of THE IMAGINARY INVALID for the University of Iowa’s Main Stage. In October, I traveled to Texas as part of the UIowa/UT- Austin MFA Playwright’s Exchange to eat BBQ, drink bourbon, and develop my play NO HOME FOR BEES while FOR THE FALLS had a staged reading in Boston with The Happy Medium Theatre Company. I had my second to last Workshop in December and premiered a brand spanking new play about the first female magician tentatively titled THE GRAND ILLUSION SHOW.

Whoa. That’s way more than I thought!

So what’s next?

First up, in January I’m heading to New Mexico to further develop FOR THE FALLS at the High Desert Conference in January. Then POCKETFUL OF SAND will premiere as part of the University of Iowa’s Gallery Series running February 19-22.

And (fingers crossed) more to come!
